Overview
Manchester Manor Health Care Center, a 126-bed skilled nursing facility, implemented Novaerus portable Protect 900 and Protect 200 units throughout the main hallways and selected areas in April 2014. This study compares the total number of nosocomial respiratory infections and nosocomial C. difficile infections before and after implementation of the Novaerus units.
A 24-month review was conducted to evaluate the results.
Methodology
A Nurse Risk Manager Consultant with RB Health Partners, Inc. visited the facility for two days to abstract information and review the data. The periods selected for aggregate pre- and post-review were June 2013 through February 2014 and June 2014 through February 2015. Comparison of like periods reduces the risk of skewed data related to seasonal variances.
Results
In the period after implementation of the Protect 900 and Protect 200 units throughout the hallways and selected areas, the total number of nosocomial respiratory infections at Manchester Manor Health Care Center decreased from 84 to 48, a 42.86% reduction.
The total number of nosocomial C. difficile infections decreased from 12 to 6, a 50% reduction.
