Overview

Page Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 180-bed skilled nursing facility, implemented the Novaerus Protect portable units in selected areas in October 2012.

This study compares the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections before and after implementation of the Novaerus technology.

A 29-month review was conducted to evaluate the results.

Background

In a prior review that was completed by RB Health Partners, Inc. on December 3, 2013, the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections was 20.25 before Novaerus implementation. This prior study also observed that the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections decreased to 5.00 in the same four month period after Novaerus implementation.

Methodology

This current, follow-up study tallies the monthly rate of nosocomial infections of respiratory etiologies from November 2013 through March 2016, averages this period to a monthly rate, and then compares this monthly rate to the monthly averages prior to and directly after implementation of the Novaerus technology. A Nurse Risk Manager Consultant with RB Health Partners, Inc. visited the facility for two days to abstract information and review the data.

Results

In the 29-month period after implementation of the Novaerus Protect units in selected areas, the average monthly rate of nosocomial respiratory infections at Page Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center decreased from 20.25 to 4.17, a 75.31% reduction.
